Albanese criticises Grace Tame for not wearing a Rio Tinto shirt

Prime Minister and part-time fashion critic Anthony Albanese has criticised child sexual abuse survivor advocate Grace Tame for the T-shirt she wore at an Australia Day event, saying it was “disrespectful” not to wear a shirt covered with the logos of mining companies.

Albanese said it was completely inappropriate for a former Australian of the Year winner to draw attention to something she believes in, as opposed to something donating to a party’s political campaign.

“When you get in a position of power or influence that’s when it is very important for you to bury all your morals and beliefs so they never appear in public,” Albanese said, “no one can respect a leader who wears shirts that give a message like that.”

Meanwhile, commentators on the Murdoch-owned Sky News took the brave step of criticising the anti-Murdoch T-shirt, describing it as “crass.”

“It was crass… how dare she drag Murdoch’s good name into something crass!” said one Sky News talking head about the man who reinvented tabloid news in Britain by putting topless women on the third page of his newspaper.

“For all the years that we have relentless attacked and smeared not just her, but many other survivors, we have never sworn. That makes us superior to them.”
