The Chaser Weakly
The Chaser’s 2024 Wrapped
Issue #308

Reliving the highlights, and well mainly lowlights, of this year.

Hello Chaser readers,
We have come to the end of the year and what a year it was. Starting with panic within the Liberal Party, as 6 former cabinet ministers resigned at the same time when former PM Morrison handed in one resignation letter.
Celebrations were held around the country to celebrate him leaving politics, which he assumed was a way to celebrate his ‘heroic’ ability to not shoot any protesting women.
The Liberal Party weren’t the only one’s suffer a major loss, as the Labor Party lost their Prime Minister’s spine. Many think Albanese might have left it at Lachlan Murdoch’s house the last time he went to kiss his ring.
2024 was a year defined by battles, like Kendrick Lamar vs Drake, Rishi Sunak vs Keir Starmer, Qantas vs their own flight schedule, Donald Trump vs Joe Biden, Donald Trump vs Kamala Harris and of course, Barnaby Joyce vs a planter box.
Foreign Affairs Minister Penny Wong has issued statements declaring her ‘grave concern’ for those involved. Her team has clarified that means she sits just below the level where she does anything.
The Olympics were this year, where Aussie women did amazing and the men were adorably giving it a go too.
Of course the breakout star was Rachael Gunn, who did a great impression of Barnaby Joyce on a Canberra footpath. If we make any more jokes, she will likely sue us for $10,000. A figure with the same amount of zeroes as her score at the Olympics.
Civilians and journalists in Palestine have been killed at an extreme rate, meanwhile journalists in Australia have been using a thesaurus at an extreme rate to figure out how to make that sound not as bad as it is.
Gendered violence was a big focal point with nationwide protests, including one attended by the Prime Minister who said he hopes people start to act soon on this growing problem/. Maybe next year we should invent some sort of role where someone is in charge of the country and can take action on important issues.
Although we did finally see a taxpayer funded tampon rollout when King Charles paid Australia a visit. Royalists hoped the trip would help secure the monarchy here, forgetting to factor in that one trip to Canberra would be enough to make anyone want to separate from Australia.
Finally, we reach the In Memoriam section to commemorate the following losses:
- The concept of an affordable weekly grocery shop
- Brad Banducci’s 4Corners interview
- Brad Banducci’s career at Woolworths
- Peter Costello’s temper at a journalist
- Peter Costello’s career at 9
- America
- The ABC News website being usable and nice to look at
- The time before we had seen Hubbl ads
- Hamish and Andy’s souls
- Channel 7’s “Cocaine and Massages” budget
- The Christmas leftovers you say are ‘still good’ but clearly aren’t
Most tragically, we also saw the survival of Rupert Murdoch for yet another year. Maybe next time.
Yours,
John Delmenico
