Oh yeah, Australian politics exists too…

Like many of you, we got distracted by America’s more interesting politics, so here is a recap of this week’s Aussie news.

Hello Australia,

Like many of you, this week we have been so distracted by the trainwreck of American politics that we completely forgot about our own political bin-fires.

Because let’s be real, US politics is way more interesting. In the last 2 weeks alone we’ve had Joe Biden stepping down, the assassination attempt and JD Vance allegedly having sex with a couch (presumably due to his stance on abortion rights, he went with a ‘pull-out’ couch).

To make up for our focus on the election that feels like entertainment you can eat popcorn to, here is a quick recap of Aussie news stories from the week:

It was revealed in court that Linda Reynolds leaked private documents about Brittany Higgins to The Australian. Following the revelation that only came to light because Reynolds chose to sue Higgins, Reynolds has begun preparation to sue herself for defamation.

Speaking of The Australian, the outlet turned 60 this week celebrating with a party one day after it was revealed that Rupert Murdoch secretly plans to change his trust to lock three of his children out of News Corp. This series of quick dramatic events was reportedly inspired by a scrapped episode of Succession.

Opposition leader Peter Dutton and Prime Minister Anthony Albanese were both guests at the celebration of the threat to democracy, with the PM denying that he was there to just ‘kiss the ring’. Saying “I’ll do way more to the ring, I’ll make out with it. I am willing to go all the way with it if that’s what I’m told to do.”

Gladys Berejiklian lost her appeal against the ICAC findings, with the courts declaring that her corruption was ‘Gold Standard’.

Lastly, Katy Perry has been announced as the performer for the AFL Grand Final, which many are calling the final nail in the coffin for her attempted comeback.

The AFL said they chose Perry after relating to her new album. “Not the empowering women stuff, just the part where she was criticised for working with an alleged abuser still.”

That’s this week’s news that we missed, hopefully next week America can chill the fuck out for a bit so we can back to the regular coverage.

Yours,

John Delmenico
