Dutton apologises for using historically homophobic insult, promises to return to dog whistles moving forward

Opposition leader Peter Dutton has released an apology after using a historically anti-gay slur against Prime Minister Albanese, with Dutton’s office claiming he didn’t mean to cause any offence, just simply stir up unnecessary culture wars.

“Of course I didn’t mean to be homophobic,” said the man who voted against gay marriage, “I mean obviously not as Anthony is straight. It’s purely just that I know so many slurs that they are the first thing that comes to mind when I want to insult someone.”

“From now on I will take responsibility for my actions and simply return to the dogwhistles I use every day instead, that way it’s just the people I am riling up who are using the slurs instead of me.”

Members of the Liberal Party have anonymously spoken to multiple outlets to say they can not stand by the Opposition Leader’s homophobic remark, although they are not against it enough to not endorse him as someone who should be leading the country.
