In a moving traditional ceremony a Queensland family has changed the smoke alarm battery after being told they are facing ‘once in a lifetime’ a weather event.
“Oh it’s that time of year again already?” said said Debbie, a retired Mum from Bribie Island, “these things just really creep up on you.”
“It’s sort of a thing we all do in solidarity with one another. First you get the warnings, and then the PM speaks, then Woolies runs out of toilet paper so you go buy some batteries to take your mind off whatever this year’s disaster is.”
“The kids are really excited to have the day off school so that’s nice.”
The pastime has become so popular that local shops are now stocking extra batteries the moment any ‘Once in a lifetime weather event’ starts being talked about on the news.
“It’s like nature’s calendar,” said Bunnings worker Greg, “every time the weather goes bonkers, we get a rush on 9-volt batteries. It’s become as predictable as the unprecedented natural disasters these days..”
Opposition leader Peter Dutton wished his constituents well via video conference on Gina Rinehart’s private yacht.
