Weeks after rebooting the Muppet Show again, Disney has announced they are bringing back another fan favourite in an attempt to further mine their nostalgic IP.
The studio has announced a revival of family classic ‘Bear in the Big Blue House’, but in a modern setting where Bear finds out he might not be able to stay put in that house for much longer.
“We wanted a show that families can relate to,” said a Disney executive, “and what is more relatable than housing cost?”
“We went through all our old shows and this was the first one that came up involving a house, so we knew there was more to Bear’s story.”
“I don’t want to give anything away but as the show goes on he might be forced to become Bear in the Small Blue Apartment.”
The pilot episode will feature Bear and the Moon singing “Goodbye, Goodbye” to home ownership and Otto and Etta Otter returning to their pond to find it full of shopping trolleys and floating chunks of Styrofoam. While Tutter, the mouse, is tragically poisoned by the neighbour’s RATSAK.
“It’s going to be a far bit darker and grounded than the original” said the Disney Rep, “sure talking animals are fantastical but a bear being able to afford his own a house with only 3 roommates? That felt a bit far fetched for 2026.”
