The Block does the impossible by making houses so ugly they can’t even sell them in this market

Twenty One seasons in, The Block is still managing to stun audiences after they did the one thing thought to be impossible in 2025: make houses that no one even wants to bid on.
“We needed to do break new ground this season,” said Scott Cam, “it was getting a bit predictable, we build a house that doesn’t look liveable, then some rich guy wanting to show off buys it but mainly cause the market these days means there is no point not buying it.”
“Throw in a bit of gentrification plus some nonstop product placement and boom, you’ve got an easy ratings hit. But it was all a bit dull, so we were inspired by the dullness to try make the most dull houses possible.”
“We knew that to really shake up the formula, we would need houses that feel like they have no soul in them at all, and to put them in a place where the house price is ridiculous. But now, the show has gone from a competition of how much we will raise local house prices by, to if we can at all.”
“It’s a miracle that we pulled this off.”
