TikTok Awards announce next year’s red carpet dress code will be white pointy hoods

TikTok Australia has responded to allegations of racism regarding who was allowed on the red carpet during the TikTok Awards, by realising a new clearer dress code for next year saying that only those in white pointy hoods will be allowed to get their photos taken.

This comes after multiple women of colour, including an award nominee, were harassed by TikTok staff and photographers for getting in line for the red carpet at the red carpet event they were invited to, and were told their photos weren’t ‘needed’.

“We are devastated that what happened occurred on camera,” said a spokesperson for TikTok, “we promise to keep all future racism behind the scenes during the planning to avoid any events like this moving forward.”

“But next year make sure to get your nicest white robes ready for your picture otherwise we won’t want to use your photos. Maybe even accessorise with a necklace with burning cross on it.”

Some in traditional media have defended TikTok Australia, claiming they weren’t being racist, they were just picking who gets their photos taken based on the kinds of people Sunrise and News Corp will want to promote. Which is also why next year it’s rumoured that the ceremony will be hosted by Alan Jones and Pauline Hanson.

However not all in the media has responded to the story, with many tabloids that usually rush to publish a story writing up any video that goes remotely viral, staying silent over the weekend about the allegations seemingly out of fear of losing access to the red carpet next year. Where they can lazily ask the same question about whether influencing is a ‘hard job’, in a desperate bid to go as viral as the previous times they ask that question.
