Year 11 students around the country have been seen smiling today as they will no longer have to force themselves to trudge through the book ‘Jasper Jones‘.
This comes after the author, Craig Silvey, plead guilty on child sexual abuse material related charges, which has led to WA schools officially dropping his books while many other states are predicted to follow due to teachers not wanting to ask ‘what was the author’s intent with this book’ ever again.
“Thank god that’s over,” said one student, “I mean honestly, the story of us asking ‘really’ when Ms K told us to open our books leading her to decide we didn’t need to is a better story than Jasper Jones anyway.”
“Justice has prevailed now that the book that was only taught in schools due to being Australian despite being poorly written has finally been locked away from us.”
“I just wish he was caught sooner. To think of all the victims of both his crimes and his writing who could’ve been protected. It’s heartbreaking.”
