A manager at one of Australia’s most progressive newsrooms took a moment in an all-hands meeting to acknowledge that he is white, prompting applause from his majority white team.
“Allyship is important” he said while getting a hand cramp from patting himself on the back, “and as an ally, I know that what I have done here deserves our new ‘Best Ally’ award.”
Thanks to the manager’s initiative, sources say that racism at the company has since been completely wiped out.
He was joined by the company’s head of HR, who, while reportedly also white, did not wish to acknowledge it. Instead saying that they learned how to move past such things at a HR course which was also taught by white people.
Not present at the meeting was the person of colour who had been suspended without pay for raising a concern about race.
