As conflicts across the globe widen and society plunges headlong into a third world war, some savvy landlords have begun investing in a new asset: fallout shelters. Boomers across the country have been snapping up bunkers at record prices, hoping to rent them to the young and fearful.
“It’s the best investment vehicle I’ve ever seen,” said Darren (65, slumlord), “think about it – young people want to enjoy their entire lifespans, even if it means living in a hole in a boomer’s backyard.”
“On the other hand, us oldies want to rent out every square inch of our properties while keeping the option of nuclear war on the table.”
His partner Sandra (70, yacht racer) agrees, “The best part is, if nuclear catastrophe is averted, we can negatively gear all the costs in setting this bunker up! It’s perfect!”
Critics warn that investment fallout shelters will price out younger families, noting that it is now harder than ever to get a foot on the doomsday prepping ladder.
Meanwhile, the Albanese government has announced that it will be offering a First Prepper’s Loan of 25% for all new bunker developments. No millennials could be reached for comment, as they were all busy having a panic attack.
