The Adelaide Festival of Arts have announced a rebrand for their annual Adelaide Writers Week to just the Adelaide Writers Afternoon.
The change was made after over 40 scheduled speakers pulled out in just 24 hours following the festival board’s decision to remove Palestinian-Australian author Dr Randa Abdel-Fattah from the line up.
“We had to readjust the branding to fit the new schedule following the boycott,” said one board member, “it’s just a matter of taking accountability to make sure no one is mislead by how many panels will be held this year or whether any of our previously announced headliners still want to associate with us.”
“You know what it’s better this way anyway. I mean a whole week’s worth of guests just sounds exhausting. Now instead of listening to all these world renowned authors speak, we can just watch a live recording of Insiders and be home in time for dinner.”
“Plus as we’ve been sayings, we are really concerned about social cohesion and if anything, this decision has brought everyone together. Even they did so to tell us that we’re racist embarrassments.”
