457 crackdown: employers forced to fill out slightly different application form

Malcolm Turnbull has cracked down on temporary work visas by changing the name of the scheme, and making employers fill out a slightly different form.

The changes — which come in today — mean that employers will be forced to redo any paperwork they were in the process of completing.

Among the sweeping minor adjustments to the 457 scheme is that whole categories of worker have been excluded including goat herders, turf growers and deer farmers.

In announcing the new policy, Prime Minister (for the moment) Malcolm Turnbull said, “This sweeping change sends a stern message to goat herders across the world: we don’t want you in Australia. We believe that only Australian goat herders should herd Australian goats.”
